Summary

Duties

The Certified Scrub Tech, under the direct supervision of the Vascular Surgeon, provides patient care through scrubbing surgical cases and assisting the RN with circulating duties by helping to obtain the appropriate supplies, instruments and equipment for the surgical procedure.  Assists surgeon however the surgeon deems necessary during the case.  After the case assists the RN to complete the cleaning of the room and any patient care that needs to be completed.

Arranges and examines instruments for procedures, provides technical assistance during procedures.  Light sources, instruments, and accessory equipment are consistently checked for proper functioning.  Performs as an assistant to attending physician under the direction of a physician or registered nurse.  Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures by cleaning counters, light sources, carts, emptying suction canisters and sets up appropriate equipment for next procedure.

Scrubs basic cases.  Perform as buddy scrub as required.  Build relationships with surgeons.  Network with scrub technicians.

Assembles supplies and instruments for OR procedures while properly storing sterile supplies.  Correct procedure card for supplies and instruments is identified and used.  Sufficient quantities of supplies and instruments are pulled for each procedure.  Case carts are completed accurately and promptly.

Initiates/responds willingly to requests for participation in department/system projects.  Participates in and serves on at least one unit based or system committee. Acts as a resource and preceptor for newly hired staff.

Seeks opportunities to maintain and improve competency.  Maintains certification and encourages 100% departmental compliance in certification status.

 

 

Requirements

High school diploma preferred.  Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician Program.  Competency as evident in pursuing and maintaining national certification within subspecialty area.

National Certification required.  Graduate of an ORT course.  May be hired as Certification eligible, but Certification must be achieved within one year of employment.

3 to 5 years' operating room scrub experience required.  Preferred 1 year vascular operating room scrub experience.
