Summary
Duties:
Responsible for identifying and marking diagnostic cells on slides. As the primary identifier of cells that are suspicious or positive for malignancy, collaborates with the pathologist on the final diagnosis in these cases. Procedures are performed on specimens from adult, adolescent and geriatric patients. Performs the work with speed and accuracy. Keeps abreast of advancements made in Cytology and reflects current legal, ethical and professional standards in all areas of responsibility. Must have basic knowledge of histologic techniques such as cell blocks and special stains that might assist in making an accurate diagnosis.
Requirements:
- National Certification à Required. Currently registered or registry eligible by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists CT(ASCP) or equivalent.
- Graduate of an approved school of cytotechnology Knowledge of procedures, policies and practices that can be obtained through specific education and/or training.
