Position Summary

The Registered Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the cardiac patient population served on the Cardiac Recovery Unit. The individual demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. He or she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate level of care.

Core Job Functions
- Assesses and documents the physiological health of the patient. Participates in patient/family education and teaching. Ensures that all patients are prepped according to procedure guidelines.
- Assessment and reassessment are completed and changes in status are communicated to appropriate care provider. Plan of care is formulated and modified based on evaluation. Collaborates with disciplinary health care team to improve patient outcomes.
- Physician preference orders are used where appropriate. Preference orders are updated as needed to reflect current best practices. Patient documentation is accurate and timely and it reflects rationale for any deviation from standard of care.
- Responds to patient requests and proactively addresses patient needs using a multi and interdisciplinary approach. Works with the unit team to address patient satisfaction scores and works with unit leadership to develop and implement action plans.
- Proficient knowledge in the management of cardiac and emergency medication. Accountable for standards of care as related to analgesia and/or moderate sedation. Compliant with the use of Pyxis for medication access per hospital policy.
- Engages resources to facilitate timely discharge and throughput starting on admission. Anticipates forecasted patient care discharge needs to ensure throughput targets met. Provides input that decreases inefficiencies for unit, staff in collaboration with the manager.
- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of The Joint Commission, OSHA and CMS guidelines.
