Position Summary

The OR Scheduling Specialist will receive request for surgical procedures, coordinates/schedules surgical services using established hospital protocols and comprehensive knowledge of case types and resource availability. Collects and validates high quality patient demographics, guarantor insurance info, authorizations, resource availability, CPT, HCPCS and ICD10 codes. Practices phone etiquette and develops a relationship with various physician offices ensuring patient needs are met, including accommodating and facilitating special request for surgical resources. Resolves all scheduling/resource utilization conflicts. Validates surgical schedules with physician offices ensuring optimal operating schedule to support efficient use of staff and resources. Monitors and manages block time including procedures, releases and protocols.

1-2 Years Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology knowledge - Required

Core Job Functions
- Ensures accurate scheduling, rescheduling, cancellations and verification of the patients appointment with the correct MD, modality, special equipment and studies. Repeats appointment date, time and location prior to ending call. Schedules interpreters for patients as needed.
- Answers telephones and call lights, screening and prioritizing. Assists Nurses and Resource Coordinator with communication with doctor's offices. Obtains appropriate documentation and forms for surgical charts.
- Meets department production standards. Meets department quality standards
- Communicates timely with the appropriate department/staff all pertinent appointment information. Effectively provide patient's and physician office staff scheduling guidelines and protocols. Verify MD written orders via RtFa.
- Compliant with accessing and extracting confidential patient information for acquiring insurance authorizations. Clear, precise communication.
