Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Performs duties under the Medical Director, Program Director, and/or Clinical Coordinator as appropriate for the program. Under general supervision of the Clinical Manager for Specialty Services, is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, including the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber (s) and related support systems.
  • Education
    • High School Diploma - Preferred
    • Attend an approved HBO Safety Director Course
    • Must have completed a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course.
    • Maintains and demonstrates competency in BLS (Basic Life Support), infection control, safety and all unit required skill review.
  • Experience
    • 1-2 Years Patient Care - Required
  • License & Certification
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
    • Be certified and or licensed in one of the following vocations:
      • Respiratory Therapist
      • Diver Medic- Corpsman (Military)
      • Medical Services Specialist
      • EMT
      • Paramedic
      • Registered Nurse, LPN, or LVN
      • Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
      • Current Diving Medical Technician (DMT) or Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT). Interim status may be appointment until CHT or DMT certification is attained. Must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

      • Athletic Trainer- Nurse Practitioner
      • Life Support Technician
      • Physiologist (Exercise or Aerospace)

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
  • Core Job Functions
    • Provide leadership and safety training to other hyperbaric personnel. Maintains all safety related standards as required by licensing and regulatory agencies.  Work closely with Medical, Program, and Nursing Directors to develop and annually review departmental policies and procedures.   
    • Collaborate with Program Director and DCS Safety Committee to coordinate and approve all chamber upgrades, modifications and repairs. Assumes responsibility for all hyperbaric equipment.  Maintain adequate supplies for chamber operation.               
    • Utilizes approved decompression procedures for all persons with hyperbaric exposure to inert gas. Conducts quarterly hyperbaric chamber fire safety drills.  Reviews and discusses safety-related events and discusses outcomes to promote learning.             
    • Make recommendations for departmental safety policies and incorporate new procedures as appropriate. Support clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.  Maintain positive working relationship between department and local Fire Marshall, EMS Director and Pressure Vessel inspector.
