Summary
Duties:
The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic and screening mammograms and needle localizations with required FDA patient identification and dose information. Mammography tech will be responsible for performing biopsies while insuring sterile technique under the direct supervision of the Radiologist or Surgeon. Responsible for the proper handling. labeling and transporting of the biopsy specimen. Maintains accurate and retrievable records in accordance with MQSA for the digital unit. Regularly checks equipment and accessories including digital detectors according to guidelines of the ACR and FDA. Maintains daily logs for QA/QC and equipment checks. The mammography tech will be responsible, under supervision of manager, for yearly inspections of regulating agencies. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practioner sites for consultation.
The Mammography tech is responsible for assuring that the FDA required letter with preliminary results reaches the patient either at time of appointment or by mail. Also responsible for the printing and mailing of appointment reminders for annual mammograms.
Assumes responsibility for the protection of themselves, the patient, and others by adhering to the prescribed safety standards. Practices ALARA.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree is required. Candidate must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology. Candidate must be ARRT certified. Mammography registered/eligible(must pass Mammography registry within 6 months of hire date). 1 year of mammography experience is required. Candidate must have knowledge of sterile technique and infection control. National mammography certification is required.
