Oncology Lab specialist II (8213.2870)

Duties:

This position operates in an expanded role from Lab Specialist I by providing team lead presence, guiding and directing the lab team. Additionally, the role includes expanded technical duties, such as assisting with bone marrow specimen collections, prepping, and shipping to outside reference/pathology lab. This position is responsible for performing various in office laboratory testing under the regulatory guidelines of CLIA or COLA certifications. Follows written guidelines for identifying patients and labeling specimens. Uses computer to efficiently organize specimen collection by priority. Successfully performs capillary and venipunctures, using sound judgment to make decisions about acceptability of sample type, volume and integrity. Responsible for reconciling and retrieving lab test results. Utilizes working knowledge of the complex instruments used in the clinical laboratory to perform the work required with speed and accuracy. Knowledgeable of laboratory test procedures with defined automated procedures, calculations and/or indicators which are age dependent. Testing procedures are performed on specimens for practice patients. Maintains cleanliness of laboratory, ensures equipment is properly maintained and orders supplies as needed. Ensures all in office testing is correctly billed within EMR. This position will also require communication with outside laboratories on behalf of patients and providers. Position requires individual to exhibit strong communication skills.

Requirements:

An Associates Degree is required. Associate degree in medical laboratory technology program; or successful completion of two years of academic study in an accredited college or university or equivalent. Significant experience and training in Medical Oncology Practice laboratory settings, may be considered in lieu of required Associates.1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting is required. 1 year  of experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
