St. Joseph’s/Candler (SJ/C) is a 714-bed private, faith-based, not-for-profit health system featuring two of the oldest hospitals in our country: St. Joseph’s Hospital (founded in 1875 and Candler Hospital (founded in 1804). Accredited by the Joint Commission, St. Joseph’s/Candler is a proud 5-time recipient of the "Magnet" designation for nursing excellence, a feat only accomplished by 22 other health systems in the world, putting our nurses in an elite class of professionals.
Serving over 33 counties in southeast Georgia and the SC Lowcountry, SJ/C provides exceptional heart and vascular care, oncology, neurosciences, pulmonology, orthopedics, and general surgery featuring some of the most advanced technology in practice today. It is also home to Mary Telfair Women's Hospital, the first hospital for women in the US offering labor and delivery, a Level II NICU, and GYN surgery. The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion is nationally recognized for it work in oncology care and is one of the principal partners in the National Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP), a program of the NCI and National Institute of Health.
