Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Performs clinical duties and basic nursing care in keeping with established policies and procedures, which includes routine office procedures, testing, administration of medications, participating in patient education, and assisting physician. Provides direct patient care, monitors patients, answers questions, documents triage calls, and reports changes to physician or physician assistant.  Keeps an accurate and concise record of patient observations, treatments and procedures administered by documenting findings in the medical record.  Assists in the assessment of patient’s response to treatment relative to identifying common and recurring nursing needs of the patient. Recognizes and anticipates urgent or emergent patient situations and responds appropriately. Identifies patient education needs and may assist in patient teaching as to appropriate health maintenance and management of illness. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. Obtains pre-certification for surgical and radiology procedures as ordered. Coordinates surgical procedures with appropriate departments as ordered by physician or physician assistant. Participates in annual education, training and professional development in triage and related cardiothoracic nursing.

    • College Diploma in Nursing - Required
  • Experience
    • 1 Year hospital, office practice, cardiology, cardiothoriacic or surgical setting - Preferred
  • License & Certification
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
  • Core Job Functions
    • Vital signs are taken on each patient, on each visit and input into eClinical Works. Verifies and updates patients clinical record on each visit.
    • Follow policies and procedures for routine office procedures, test, administration of medications and assisting providers up to and including IV therapy. Recognizes and anticipates urgent and emergent patient situations and responds appropriately.
    • Interview patients to obtain and record medical history, basic health information, and medication adherence.
    • Identifies patient education needs and may assist in patient teaching as to appropriate health maintenance and management of illness. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
    • Updates patient charts with needed information based open previous progress notes or patient chief complaint. Performs clinical procedures based upon clinical protocols. Reviews and updates patient charts with needed information to include prevention guidelines, medications, accurately based upon directions/dosage.
    • Carry out providers orders. Carry out provider referrals.
    • All controls will be run according to policy and procedure. All specimen collection will be done according to policy and procedure. All proficiency testing and quality control assurance will be done according to policy and procedure.
