Position Summary

Maintains standards related to patient care and technical services performed during the pre-, intra- and post-procedural period for angiographic and other invasive procedures using highly specialized digital radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment. The Special Procedures Technologist serves in the roles of monitoring, circulating and scrubbing procedures. The focus of these standards is to assure optimal examinations, interventions and post care while maintaining the highest level of patient safety and comfort possible. This individual is required to rotate emergency call in the event of after hour emergencies. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation.

Registered Radiological Technologist (RTR) within one year of hire date.

Core Job Functions
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patient being served. Demonstrates principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient populations served. Coordinates patient care needs with team members and other appropriate departments.
- Maintains aseptic/sterile technique during invasive procedures per policy. Anticipates needs and provides procedural supplies and/or equipment to the physician. Proficient in arterial and venous access management.
- Proficient knowledge in the management of cardiac and emergency medication. Accountable for standards of care as related to analgesia and/or moderate sedation. Compliant with the use of Pyxis for medication access per hospital policy.
- Accurately enters procedural documentation and patient charges per department guidelines. Areas of concern in patient history or on imaging are identified and communicated to radiologist to ensure proper action. Completes required documentation in department's PACS.
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment is performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendation and department policy. Work orders involving equipment are entered promptly into the system. Staff education regarding care and operation of equipment is conducted annually and documented as needed.
- National certification/registry is maintained. Competency in the use of all department equipment and performance of all department procedures is demonstrated.
- Knowledgeable of JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines concerning the care of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of proper aseptic technique, Universal Precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify and ALARA. Demonstrates knowledge of patients rights and use of required patient identification.
