Summary

  • Position Summary
    • The NP/PA of the Melanoma, Skin Cancer, & Sarcoma Institute works under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director of the Institute and administrative supervision of the Manager of Administration & Business Operations. The role builds upon general nurse practitioner training and skill sets with a focus in the specialty of surgical oncology with particular focus on melanoma, skin cancer and sarcoma patients, treatment, management, and post-surgical follow-up. Under the supervision of the Medical Director for this service, clinical support duties include appropriate ordering of diagnostic work up studies per high risk management protocols, monitoring and evaluating progress of patients under surveillance, first call triage, and ongoing monitoring of patients on clinical protocols by working closely with clinical research coordinator. This includes maintaining a case load of patients, specifically follow up and post-operative patients as directed by the Medical Director, and bills appropriately for services rendered. The NP/PA will also work in the oncology survivorship clinic to develop survivorship care plans for patients who have completed treatment in coordination with the multi-disciplinary team of physicians. The NP/PA is expected to bill appropriately and maintain all licensures and privileges to do so. The NP/PA is required to meet all regulatory and compliance aspects of the role and to participate in quality and revenue cycle improvement activities.

    • Masters in Nursing - Required
  • Experience
    • 1 - 2 Years of Oncology surgical services - Preferred
    • 1-2 years of women's health and pap smear experience - Preferred
  • License & Certification
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
    • Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse - Preferred
  • Core Job Functions
    • Under the direction and guidance of the surgical oncologist, evaluates and manages patients diagnosed with melanoma, skin cancers and sarcoma. This includes ordering diagnostic testing, clinical procedures, genetic testing, and working closely with physicians to design a plan of care and surveillance milestones, and following up with patients regarding communication of plan, compliance, and ongoing management.
    • Conducts comprehensive holistic wellness and illness assessments and employs evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in care of patients. Provides leadership for collaborative, evidence-based revision of diagnoses and plans of care, to improve patient outcomes. Develops evidence-based clinical interventions and systems to achieve defined patient and system outcomes.
    • Appropriately assess and manages patients; accurately prepares procedure and diagnostic orders, monitors, and evaluates patient progress, promptly responding to changes in patient status. Works under the guidance of the surgical oncologist.
    • Develops survivorship care plans and effectively manages recommended screening and following measures as per the NCCN Guidelines.
    • Routinely attends available continuing educational programs in order to maintain competencies as an oncology nurse practitioner and stays current with advancements in oncology patient management specifically in surgery and treatment of melanoma, skin cancer and sarcoma.
    • Adheres to prescription drug or device order guidelines in any health care setting in accordance with regulations. Compliant with all standards of practitioner requirement.
