Summary

  • Position Summary
    • The URO GYN First Assistant Surgical Tech, under the direct supervision of the URO GYN Surgeon, provides patient care through scrubbing surgical cases and assisting the RN with circulating duties by helping to obtain the appropriate supplies, instruments and equipment for the surgical procedure. The URO GYN First Assistant Tech is required to be proficient in assisting with GYN laparoscopic surgeries as well as open GYN surgeries.First Assist will also provide support in office on days surgeries are not scheduled. Provides basic nursing care which includes performing routine office procedures, testing and participating in patient education.Performs clinical duties in keeping with established policies and procedures, which includes routine office procedures and testing, and assisting physician.Keep an accurate and concise record of patient observations, treatments and procedures administered; documents findings in the medical record.Identifies patient education needs and may assist in patient teaching as to appropriate health maintenance and management of illness.Communicates effectively with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.May require increased clerical duties as assigned.Performs or assists with other assignments, as required.

    • 3-5 Years Operating room scrub experience - Required
    • Preferred 1 year in GYN or URO GYN.
  • License & Certification
    • National Certification - Required
    • Certification must be achieved  for employment.
  • Core Job Functions
    • Light sources, instruments and accessory equipment are consistently checked for proper functioning. Performs as an assistant to attending physician under the direction of a physician or registered nurse. Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures by cleaning counters, light sources, carts, emptying suction canisters and sets up appropriate equipment for next procedure.
    • Correct procedure card for supplies and instruments is identified and used. Sufficient quantities of supplies and instruments are pulled for each procedure. Case carts are completed accurately and promptly.
    • Maintains certification and encourages 100% departmental compliance in certification status.
    • Follow policies and procedures for routine office procedures, test, administration of medications and assisting providers up to and including IV therapy. Recognizes and anticipates urgent and emergent patient situations and responds appropriately.
    • Answers telephones with standard scripting. Enters telephone messages for patients accurately and timely for clinical staff and providers to answer. Processes incoming and outgoing documents. Collects co-pays and balances on accounts.
    • Using eCW, ascertain which women have not had a mammogram within the last year. Get a provider order and schedule appointment.
    • Triage patients for clinic visits and record in eCW/paper.
