Summary

  • Position Summary
    • The role of the Massage Therapist is:
      1. To use massage techniques to enhance relaxation and in each client.
      2. To enhance muscle performance and to assist in recovery of clients
      3. To assist in the healing process of a client by massaging the soft tissue of the human body, including muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
      4. To educate the client in the field of total health for life.
      5. To advocate independence in the client.
      6. To use complementary aids, such as wet compresses, ice, essential oils and mineral therapies to promote recovery, relaxation and in a client.
  • Education
    • Certificate - Required
  • Experience
    • 1 Year Massage - Required
    • At least 6-12 months practicing the art of massage.
  • License & Certification
    • National Certification - Required
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
    • Professional Certification - Required
    • National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Current Georgia Board Massage Therapy License
    • Advanced massage training ( must have at least one of the following) -
      • Pregnancy and infant massage-
      • Neuromuscular massage-
      • Sports massage
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - required
  • Core Job Functions
    • Reviews chart for complete history, consent and doctors order for inpatients prior to conducting massage session. Massage session is developed and adjusted based on the needs of client from a case history. Explanation of expected and actual physiological response and benefits to massage is provided during the session and documented.   
    • Open communication with patients/families is utilized to achieve positive patient/family outcomes. Follow up on patient/family/customer complaints in a timely manner. Attends community activities including health fairs, lectures, and visits to doctor offices.
    • Prepares and blends oils and lotions to be applied during the massage that promote recovery and relaxation. Uses techniques of applying pressure and stretching to the muscles and bones that are designed to relax the muscles and increase circulation.
