Utilizing the Nursing Process the Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing patients & identifying nursing diagnosis to plan & implement plan of care and evaluate patient outcome. Collaborates with Multi Disciplinary Team and utilizes critical thinking skills to solve problems, communicate and use reflective judgement. Participant and contributor to unit activities including patient satisfaction, customer satisfaction, regulatory & accreditation compliance.

Core Job Functions
- Utilize nursing process per the scope and standards for oncology nursing practice
- Documents all patient related clinical information and assesses patient for special needs and plans appropriate intervention. Comprehensive review of the patient's medical history is performed and documented.
- Utilizes Teach Back technique to assess understanding of education. Assesses needs for discharge and the best way the patient may be provided instruction. Utilizes appropriate written communication, education packets and/or audio-video instructions. Teach back performed with patients to facilitate patient outcome improvements by increasing knowledge and skills needed to improve healthy behaviors. Elicit information using effective counseling techniques. Identify factors that might affect communication or learning.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of policies and procedures of Hospital as well as Standards of Practice for specialty area. Exercise independent judgment in the assessment of patient's needs, and identifies clinical priorities throughout the Hospital. Responds appropriately to resolving issues that impact patient care.
- Assures fiscal compliance related to patient billing and coding. Correctly bill patients for services and accurately document to support charges.
- Competes mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner. Assists Professional Development Coordinator/Educators in planning and presenting unit-based in-services.
- Responds to patient requests and proactively addresses patient needs using a multi and interdisciplinary approach. Works with the unit team to address patient satisfaction scores and works with unit leadership to develop and implement action plans.
