Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Educator, the Clinical Orientation Coordinator (COC) utilizes the novice to expert model in conjunction with current evidence-based Emergency Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Practice to ensure new graduate nurses are fully oriented and competent upon completion of the orientation period. The COC functions in the role of coordinator to a prescribed number of new graduates and their preceptors throughout the orientation period from hire to completion. The COC continues to follow orientees in the role of mentor following completion of orientation.

Core Job Functions
- Provides structured, tiered competency based clinical experiences for new graduates. Provides consistent feedback and progress reports to the new graduate, and follow up with the nurse manager. Facilitates staff development and personal growth through peer review, observation, education and role modeling.
- Provides rationale and implementation guidelines for nurse sensitive indicators and other clinical quality outcomes. Provides clinical experiences to develop nursing process, and critical thinking, knowledge and skills. Provides application experiences to ensure clinical competency upon completion of residency.
- Recognizes and rewards goal attainment and successful performance. In conjunction with Nurse Manager and others, develops action plans as needed to support independent practice.
- Promotes collaborative relationships with co-workers and physicians through introductions and follow up. Provides education and support in the appropriate utilization of resources and standards of care for the patient population.
