Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Oversees the function of Point of Care Programs at St. Joseph's and Candler Hospitals. Coordinates Point of Care (POC) activities and monitors, developing necessary tools for collection of data. Coordinates selection and implementation of POC services and equipment. Collates Performance Improvement (PI) data for reporting. Keeps abreast of guidelines of applicable regulatory agencies. Serves as a resource for Nursing Service personnel in regard to POC testing. Interfaces with Nursing Service personnel to ensure compliance with JCAHO, CAP, and GDHR regulations in regard to POC testing.

    • Bachelors - Required
  • Experience
    • 3-5 Years Medical Technologist - Preferred
    • 4 years clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • License & Certification
    • National Certification - Preferred
    • Currently registered or registry eligible by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent.
  • Core Job Functions
    • Demonstrates working knowledge and promotes compliance of current Point of Care regulatory guidelines. Maintains POC proficiency testing schedule, monitoring problems with survey mailings and notifying proficiency testing agency of problems. Works closely with patient care area managers to ensure competency of testing personnel.
    • Demonstrates working knowledge of current QC guidelines of applicable regulatory agencies. Collects and collates Performance Improvement data, presenting monthly Performance Improvement reports. Collates data. prepares reports for Point of Care Committee and document facility/nursing unit in compliance with policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Coordinates implementation of new laboratory and Point of Care equipment including interface set up and parallel testing. Coordinates testing, validation and documentation of Meditech computer operations and updates. Monitors the accuracy of result transmission and calculations performed by computer and validates auto verification rules before implementation.
    • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement monitoring and evaluation as requested. Reviews and monitors to assess and identify on-going problems so that effective resolutions can occur. Notifies Operations Manager of on-going problems, and provides suggestions and solutions to problems.
