Summary

  • Position Summary
    • Radiation therapists responsibilities include but not limited to the following. Maintains and prepares rooms, equipment and materials for patient care as needed and as required by supervisor. Implements and delivers accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy utilizing megavoltage equipment, adhering to acceptable departmental, institutional, governmental, and professional standards. Performs routine and complex tumor localization procedures if required by supervisor using a CT, PET/CT or simulator. Performs patient related and clerical function in the ambulatory setting. May require travel to and from radiation oncology sites for radiation therapy coverage.
  • Education
    • Bachelor's of Science in Radiologic Sciences - Preferred
    • Associate of Science - Required
  • Experience
    • 1-2 Years ARRT certified and treating patients in the clinic - Preferred
  • License & Certification
    • Professional Certification - Required
    • Professional License with State of Practice - Required
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists(ARRT) registry eligible. Must obtain ARRT registry within one year of hire.
  • Core Job Functions
    • Deliver accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy. Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification by performing a time out at the beginning of each procedure. Maintain records of daily treatment and other records as required by department.
    • Transfers patients safely from one platform to another and maintains visual and audible communication with patient during procedures involving radiation. Maintains patient markings.
    • Observe radiation safety measures for patient and personnel. Report erratic operation of equipment to Clinical Manager, Radiation Physicist, and/or Medical Engineer. Abides by ALARA.
    • Educates patients regarding treatment procedures and reassures them. Maintains patient treatment schedules and communicates treatment times and appointments with patients. Mentors and teaches radiation therapy students.
    • Observe patient for unusual reactions and events and report accurate information to nursing staff and/or radiation oncologist. Coordinates hospital transpiration for inpatients.
    • Accurately provides documentation to support charges billed. Retain updated coding parameters in radiation therapy. Performs chart audits when designated.
