Summary

  • Position Summary
    • The Oncology Information Systems Manager will be directly responsible for the oversight of the Analyst in direct support of the Oncology Service Line. This is a working manager and will be the technical lead for all technology integrations within the oncology service line; meeting weekly with the Oncology division. Responsible for assisting with Oncology IT strategy development and deployment, analyzing workflow processes, managing and tracking detailed action steps needed to complete strategic Oncology IT initiatives. This position will directly oversee IT Oncology Project Management, IT oncology staff and provide coaching and mentoring that ensures all initiatives are managed well. Responsible for development, installation, operation and on-going support of specific computer software applications that directly support the Oncology operation of St. Joseph’s/Candler (SJ/C). The Manager will communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to internal stakeholders involved in continuous improvement processes that affect the IS Oncology continuum of care and other applications as assigned in addition to managing initiatives that ensure successful regulatory certifications and quality metrics are obtained within the Oncology Service Line. Works closely with the Director of Information Services to establish work priorities and makes assignments as appropriate to meet the requirements of SJ/C. Provides project management as assigned to assure all projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Oversees the work of Application Support Analysts, Senior Application Support Analysts, and other staff as assigned to this section. Ensures that all software applications are supported and maintained at an acceptable level for all users. Identifies, documents, and resolves or reports problems to software vendors as appropriate for resolution. Tracks and follows up on all outstanding issues timely; escalates problem resolution to the Director as necessary. Customizes systems and recommends changes to systems and/or work flow processes as appropriate and consistent with user input and requirements. Focus is proactive to anticipate and meet user needs while adhering to the SJ/C Strategic Information Systems Plan. Recognizes situations that could result in loss of system efficiency or connectivity and takes initiative to prevent system issues from occurring. Assures that Analysts, Senior Analysts, Computer Programmers and other staff adhere to SJ/C and Department policies, procedures and job assignments. Provides expertise and guidance in area of research, evaluation, and selection of new computer software as required. Works closely with Director of Information Services and VP/CIO to plan for new software applications in support of the Strategic Information Systems Plan. Assists in developing the annual IS FTE, operating and capital budgets. Directly responsible for operating within the annual IS FTE, operating and capital budgets. Maintains open communications with System VPs and Directors to provide expert advise on the selection, implementation and operation of computer software. Maintains open communications and is available to component organizations and practitioner sites for consultation.

    • Bachelors - Required
    • Masters - Preferred
  • Experience
    • 3-5 Years Managing and/or leading Application, Integration, or Programming support teams. - Required
    • Broad knowledge of healthcare information and organizational systems helpful. At least six months required to proficiently perform all essential job responsibilities.  
    • Knowledge of procedures, policies and practices related to operating and using information systems. Experience with SQL, HL7, SNA, TCP/IP, FTP, and more helpful.PC knowledge and experience helpful.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail is required.

  • Core Job Functions
    • Works with management to establish IS goals and objectives, annual IS FTE, operating and capital budgets, and invoice reconciliation. Works with management in evaluating/recommending and implementation of new technology. Monthly status report is completed timely and accurately reflects progress toward goals and objectives.         
    • Oversees the work of assigned IS staff to ensure project implementation schedules are accurate and current testing and parallel training plans are effective. Identifies critical issues and facilitates resolution and/or escalates to manager.  Ensures performance reviews, commendations and disciplinary actions are performed, according to system policies and procedures, and facilitates mentoring and leads by example.            
    • Reviews and validates analysts' and implementation team members' recommended changes to workflow, policy, procedure or system. Maintains a catalogue of all documented project plans for projects, logs system changes, and establishes and implements written processes of all analysts. Understands HR and system impact of all decisions and evaluates all options and opportunities and confirms decision is best for system as a whole.
    • Analyzes and resolves problems beyond the scope of analysts, senior analysts and interface/programmer analysts. Maintains awareness of all issues relating to assigned modules and system implementation. If necessary, coordinates change with all databases and managers and maintains a chronological log of the changes.
    • Encourages analysts and implementation team members to develop user independence in system's operations. Encourages ownership of application by user. Assesses user capabilities and determines additional education needs.
