Summary

  • Position Summary
    • The Coordinator of Medical Staff Services/Credentialing serves as a resource to the Medical Staff for services related to credentialing for initial appointments and reappointments; ensures that applications are processed within approved time frames; prepares reports for monthly Medical Staff meetings; consults with the Manager and Director of Medical Staff Services on problems relating to the area of responsibility and supports the overall mission and philosophy of the Health System.

    • Associates of Healthcare - Preferred
  • Experience
    • 1-2 Years Office experience in healthcare or related field - Required
    • 3-5 Years Credentialing related - Preferred
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with excellent typing  and Medical Terminology - Required
  • License & Certification
    • NAMSS certification as a Credentialing Specialist or Medical Staff Specialist - Preferred
  • Core Job Functions
    • Responsible for maintaining credentials files in accordance with Hospital Board Bylaws, Medical Staff Bylaws and other regulating agencies. Prepares required forms and documentation for applications and ensures that necessary primary source verifications are received within required timeframes and identifies potential quality issues and brings to the attention of Manager. Maintains file in correct order and prepares for signatures of chairpersons, enters data into computer system accurately.
    • Tracks reappointments on a monthly basis and prepares and e-mails packets prior to the expiration date. Processes reappointment applications within specified timeframes by obtaining primary source verification from approved sources and identifies potential quality issues and brings to the attention of the Manager and Director. Enters data into computer system accurately and prepares for presentation to appropriate chairpersons .
    • Prepares agendas, information, reports and other documentation for departments/committees and distributes prior to meeting. Attends department/committee meetings as assigned and records minutes. Prepares information, follow-up correspondence, minutes or other reports and files or distributes as appropriate.
    • Has working knowledge of the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Joint Credentials Manual. Participates in cross-training of other personnel in the department and serves as a back-up to others in the department when needed.
    • Updates provider demographic information in MDStaff software. Responsible for expiring items. For example: over 70, Board Certifications, and MA Evaluations in provider files. Communicates with practitioners regarding delinquent/expiring items; performs primary source verification; updates information in MDStaff, scans paper documentation and reports expired items to the Manager for further action. Assist with special requests outside of reappointment. For example: change of sponsor or additional privilege requests.
